A “rebel” Duggar tells all! Her reality-star relatives are famously straitlaced, but newlywed Amy Duggar King is happy to let her hair down – and chart her own course. Subscribe now for everything about growing up Duggar, only in PEOPLE!

Amy (Duggar) King and Dillon King are in the trenches right now. “I did not realize he steals the covers at night!” She says of King in this week’s cover story. “He wraps himself up like a taco and I’m like, “I’m going to kill you!”

Like many newlyweds the couple waited to move in together until after their wedding day and are now going through the hilarious, often nerve-racking early stages of cohabitation. “But we’re okay,” says Amy. “We’re good. We love each other.”

When they’re not fighting over the covers, the pair makes sure to have a lot of fun together, from bar nights and bonfires with friends in their native Fayetteville, Arkansas, to intimate Bible studies with just the two of them.

“We love our Sundays,” says Amy. “After church we go for Mexican food and mimosas and just sit there and talk about what we learned. Even on our honeymoon in Cancun, we woke up at 6 a.m. and did a Bible study right there on the beach. It was one of my favorite moments.”

It’s having fun and leaning on her faith that makes Amy feel she and Dillon will stand the test of time. “I think when you talk about the Lord together you become closer as a couple. You’ve got to affair-proof you marriage. I will guard it like crazy!”

For Amy, that means taking full advantage of their newlywed time, without the responsibility of children. “On the honeymoon we were like, ‘Lord please don’t let us have a honeymoon baby!’ I’m the opposite of my family when it comes to that. I want to enjoy my husband without waking up in the middle of the night. We totally want that freedom.”

While her uncle Jim Bob Duggar, patriarch on her family’s former hit show 19 Kids and Counting, and his brood are known for eschewing all forms of birth control, “We’re taking every precaution we possibly can,” Amy says with a laugh.

“Dillon will be a great dad,” she says, “and I can’t wait to be a mom, but we’ll cross that bridge when we get there. We’re just not there.”
