A “rebel” Duggar tells all! Her reality-star relatives are famously straitlaced, but newlywed Amy (Duggar) King is happy to let her hair down – and chart her own course. Subscribe now for everything about growing up Duggar, only in PEOPLE!

Amy (Duggar) King and husband Dillon King are making the best out of their cozy home.

“We’re having fun,” 29-year-old Amy tells PEOPLE in an exclusive video accompanying this week’s cover story. “It’s tight quarters, so we got to learn a lot about each other really quickly.”

Though the newlyweds waited until they got married this past September to live together, Amy has been living in the apartment since last February, and Dillon joined her after the wedding.

Of course, Amy admits that sharing a home has definitely been an adjustment for both of them.

“It was like a total girl apartment, and then my husband moved in,” Amy says, to which Dillon adds, “I walked into a female explosion. That’s how I feel sometimes.”

Since Dillon, 27, moved in, he’s been able to carve out a little space for himself here and there, including the garage, one side of a cluttered closet they’ve nicknamed Narnia, an electronics corner where he “nerds out” playing Call of Duty and a drawer where he keeps his watches, sunglasses and socks.

Amy compares living in the apartment to camping. In the place of a full stove and oven, they have a plug-in skillet and toaster oven.

Says with a laugh: “We make do.”

The one perk of their limited kitchen is that it’s mobile. On their frequent movie nights, they’re able to roll the microwave into the living room and make popcorn from the comfort of their couch.

“We’re kind of boring,” Amy says. “We’ve done the whole going out every night before. Now, it’s just like sweatpants and a movie and popcorn.”
