If you’re skeptical of hypnotism, America’s Got Talent might just change your mind.

In a preview of the 10th season of AGT, Howie Mandel appears to be cured of his public fear of germs by a professional hypnotist.

“Everyone has on the smallest, thinnest latex gloves. You won’t notice it, but everyone is wearing gloves,” Chris Jones assures a dozing Mandel, who requires gloves to shake hands with anyone.

After Jones tells the talent show judge to wake up, Mandel, 59, accepts handshakes from fellow judges Mel B. and Heidi Klum without a moment’s hesitation, and the crowd goes wild. Mandel told PEOPLE last month that he hasn’t shaken anyone’s hand in nearly eight years.

Offstage, host Nick Cannon can’t contain himself either: He’s shown jumping around and excitedly yelling, “That’s crazy!”

Klum and Mel B. laugh maniacally and continue taking turns shaking hands with Mandel as he grows increasingly confused.

“Why is everybody laughing? Tell me why everybody is laughing,” Mandel demands of judge Howard Stern, who merely shrugs and simply says that Mandel is “the greatest comedian.”

Alas, the results weren’t permanent, and Mandel told PEOPLE he has no intention of continuing with hypnotherapy to find a permanent cure.

“I have no reason to shake hands, no need to shake hands,” he said.

Season 10 of America’s Got Talent, in which contestants will compete for a $1 million prize, premieres May 26 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
