Mariah Carey is nothing if not a diva – but what kind of American Idol judge will she make?

On Monday, the singer announced what had been speculated about earlier this month: she has officially signed on to the Fox reality show to fill one of the spots being vacated by Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.

At times, Lopez – much like former judge Paula Abdul – was sympathetic to young hopefuls and seemingly struggled to dole out criticism. “I didn’t know I’d be moved so emotionally by working on the show and working with the contestants,” Lopez said while announcing her exit from the series.
