Working with Murphy has been good to Bates, who won a Primetime Emmy Award in 2014 for playing Madame Delphine LaLaurie on season 3, Coven.

The casting news comes less than a month after longtime AHS favorite (and fellow Emmy winner) Jessica Lange confirmed she will not be returning for a fifth season of the show.

“We’ve had a great run here,” Lange, 65, told the audience at PaleyFest in March. “I have absolutely loved doing these four characters that I’ve had the opportunity to play …. Forty years of acting, and it’s never going to get better than this. Yes, I’m done. I’ve loved this season. It was my absolute favorite.”

Bates will accompany new cast members Lady Gaga, Matt Bomer, and Cheyenne Jackson when American Horror Story: Hotel welcomes guests this October.
