It was the dance of all dances — “The Carlton.”

Alfonso Ribeiro stopped by PEOPLE Now and discussed his winning season on Dancing with the Stars, including his famous Carlton Banks routine from the hit ’90s show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

The season 19 champion recalls debuting his crazed dance to Tom Jones’ “It’s Not Unusual” on ABC’s DWTS, and as he expected, the fans loved it.

“We had talked about the fact the we were going to do ‘The Carlton’ dance at some point,” Ribeiro says of his and Witney Carson‘s routine. “The producers and I went back and forth as to when we were going to do it. We had decided that week four was the best week for it.”

“Week five was switch-up week and no one was going to be voted off,” the 45-year-old continues. “So, I knew that obviously I would get great votes with that. I knew the fans would vote for me on that week. And I knew that that week, doing it then, would last me three or four weeks without worrying about going home. And then by that point you’re at the end of the season and you’re either going to be winning or you’re going to lose.”

The former child star knew exactly what he was doing and it worked, because he and Carson ultimately took home the trophy that season.

“Witney choreographed the dance and I taught her how to do ‘The Carlton’ side of it all,” the actor adds. “She came up with a great concept and a great routine… it was jazz and we had a blast. I just love that young woman. She is just awesome and is part of the family now.”
