Alfonso Ribeiro Looks Back on Donald Trump's 'Fresh Prince of Bel-Air' Appearance

He may be the Republican presidential nominee now, but in the ’90s, Donald Trump was just a billionaire businessman guest-starring on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Trump and his wife at the time Marla Maples appeared as themselves on a 1994 episode of the Will Smith-led sitcom, on which they briefly consider purchasing Uncle Phil’s house.

In the episode, Alfonso Ribeiro’s character Carlton was so excited to see Trump, he fainted. Ribeiro, on the other hand, feels differently about “the Donald” now.

The 45-year-old actor recently sat down with PEOPLE, where he reflected on the experience.

“I look at anything I’ve done on TV as acting,” he explained. “So that’s clearly that character and his opinions there.”

“Back then, you could love the Donald,” he continued. “Right now, I have a little different opinion of him. I try to stay away from the Donald.”

Although the America’s Funniest Home Videos host doesn’t see eye-to-eye with Trump, he thinks highly of the businessman-turned-politician’s ex-wife Maples.

“I saw Marla at the premiere this year of Dancing with the Stars and she’s wonderful,” Ribeiro said. “I enjoyed talking with her — she’s amazing.”
