On Monday, ABC announced that Diane Sawyer‘s much-anticipated Bruce Jenner – The Interview will air April 24 at 9 p.m. ET. Sawyer interviewed the 65-year-old Olympian right around the time his decision to become a woman became public. It was believed the interview with Sawyer would serve as a walk-up to Jenner’s docuseries about his transition that was expected to run on E! this year. However, production on the show has halted because Jenner isn’t certain the production company, Bunim/Murray, is the right fit. “Bruce’s primary goal is to bring awareness to this issue in order to help others [in the transgender community],” a source told PEOPLE. “He is not sure that E! and a reality show is the best format to do that.” Jenner “wants this to be taken seriously so that [his situation] can have the most positive impact on society’s perception of the transgender community,” said the source.
