Mahershala Ali

Mahershala Ali (né Mahershalalhashbaz Gilmore) is an American actor. He first gained recognition by starring in the television series Crossing Jordan (2001-2002), Threat Matrix (2003-2004) and The 4400 (2004-2007). Ali achieved critical acclaim in the 2016 film Moonlight, which earned him an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He won a second Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor and a Golden Globe for best supporting actor for his role as pianist Don Shirley in the biographical 2018 film Green Book. Ali is also known for his roles in the television series Treme (2011-2012), Alphas (2011-2012), House of Cards (2013-2016), Luke Cage (2016) and True Detective (2019) and in the films The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008), Predators (2010), The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 and Part 2 (2014-2015) and Hidden Figures (2018). In 2020, Ali received an Emmy Award for outstanding children's program for the HBO documentary We Are the Dream: The Kids of the Oakland MLK Oratorical Fest. Performing under the name Prince Ali, he has also recorded two rap albums: Corner Ensemble (2006) and Curb Side Service (2007).
