It often seems like Zendaya Coleman is a success at whatever she tries her hand at — and she’s been trying a lot: designing, developing an app, even doing her own red carpet makeup. So when the 20-year-old powerhouse offered to give us some inside scoop (about what shoes everyone needs in her closet, how to take a fire selfie, and why Breast Cancer Awareness is an issue so close to her heart), we gave her our undivided attention.

This month, Zendaya joined QVC and the Fashion Footwear Association of New York, FFANY, as the spokesperson for QVC Presents “FFANY Shoes on Sale.” The segment, airing tonight, will be a three-hour broadcast featuring designer shoes sold at half the manufacturer’s suggested retail price with a minimum of 80 percent of the purchase price going to benefit breast cancer research and education institutions. The actress says this was an important project for her to be a part of since, “breast cancer affects so many women, and there’s not a lot of awareness, with young people especially … It’s also important because my grandmother dealt with breast cancer.”

And about those Daya by Zendaya shoes she’ll be selling tonight: “I try my best to make my shoes as beautiful as possible, but also classic, meaning you can wear them with pretty much everything in your closet. A good shoe should also be really comfortable.” But she doesn’t have a specific style in mind for you to pick up: “I don’t even think I believe in trends, to be honest!” she said. “I like being a trendsetter and finding new trends. When it comes to, ‘What’s the best color this season?,’ wear whatever color you want!” Hear more from the star in this exclusive Q&A, below.

Since there will be a selfie or two tonight promoting the show, we asked for her best tips on the subject. “Always find good lighting! Face toward the window, unless you want to be backlit and find your angles,” she says. “Pick the right filters. Don’t go crazy and bump up the exposure so much, or you’ll become a blob. People want to see your face—you’re beautiful. Find the right filters to enhance what you have going on.” And the same goes for mastering your own glam, she suggests, “you just have to study your own face. Sometimes that just means sitting in front of the mirror and trying things.”

Maybe you can multitask and get your angles down while watching (and shopping) the show tonight.
