Bowties of every type have had a strong showing on the red carpet lately. Clockwise from top left: Paula Patton channeled a sassy lady Karl Lagerfeld in her lace shirt and slightly sloppy bowtie. Amber Heard wore a Dolce & Gabbana suit with her satin tie undone, plus a messy side knot secured with a barrette.

Janelle Monae went for a more literal interpretation, in a sharp-shouldered tuxedo with glossy black dress shirt buttons, a well-tied bow tie and wide-brimmed hat, with a few feminine touches including her red lip and sparkling earrings. And Keri Russell upped the girlie factor of the look with a more scarf-like tie and textured lace jacket.

Cara Delevingne is one star particularly committed to the menswear look — she’s worn both a high-necked jumpsuit bedecked with a large, shiny, floppy tie, as well as a tailored full suit with a skinny tie and faux lip ring. And if you needed any further evidence that this trend is happening, just observe Beyoncé, who topped her suiting look with a fedora and super-skinny tie.

Any chances you’ll try it this year?
