Last season Kanye West’s secretive Madison Square Garden Yeezy season 3 fashion show provided everything you would ever expect — celeb cameos (Naomi Campbell!), an impressive front row (Anna Wintour!) and the unveiling of West’s latest album (The Life of Pablo). But Yeezy season 4 is a considerably more low key show (if you can call getting all your guests to a remote island in the city low key).

Attendees were bused onto Roosevelt Island, a small area in New York’s East River, to the Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park. (And yes, we’re talking about an actual island, so guests were warned there would be a 15 minute walk to the location from the drop-off point. We sincerely hope everyone brought their Yeezys for the trek!)

Show-goers were greeted to an army of models standing and sitting and baking in the sun, wearing similar flesh-tone bodysuits and leggings to the ones shown at his past three presentations.

The multiracial models (a mandate which was announced over the weekend and resulted in considerable backlash) included some well known names were included like Sofia Richie, Chanel Iman and the star of Kanye’s latest video, Teyana Taylor.

A majority of the looks included skin-tight knit dresses with thigh-high boots (and yes, Kim Kardashian’s clear thigh-highs made an appearance!).

And Kanye took a final bow wearing head-to-toe black jogging off the runway with a big smile.

But behind the scenes things weren’t as glamorous as you may think. Models camped out in the middle of the runway had to take breathers, sitting and being passed water from members of the audience, to help stay upright in the 80° weather. Another model walking the runway lost a shoe and ditched the other one all together.

Another model broke a heel and had to be helped down the runway by a bystander.

And conditions weren’t too much better for the guests. Social media lit up with complaints about the buses used for transportation, using the hashtag #YeezyBus.

Many journalists noted that the area of Roosevelt Island where the show was held was once a smallpox hospital.

But everyone seemed to perk up when his famous family showed up, wearing similar looks seen on the runway. Kendall and Kylie Jenner were in athleisure-inspired outfits while Kim Kardashian West wore a ribbed sweater dress with over-the-knee boots. (She has explained to us that she doesn’t really experience heat.)
