Why Did Sofia Vergara Dye Her Blonde Hair Brunette?

The star dishes on why she went back to the dark side

When Sofia Vergara hit the red carpet at the CFDA Awards, everything about her look was as it should be: the plunging neckline and jewel-toned hue of her Herve L. Leroux gown, her Lorraine Schwartz blinged-out necklace, and her long brown hair worn down in bombshell waves.

Wait. Wasn’t she a blonde just a minute ago?

“I [dyed] it for a movie I shot in New Orleans with Jason Statham [a crime drama called Heat],” Vergara told PEOPLE at the cocktail party before the awards. “Now, I did it a little bit darker.”

But she admits that she yearns for her sun-kissed roots, pointing at a friend who accompanied her to the event: “Now I got jealous when I saw her today. She’s so blonde! I want to do it again!”
