Who Knew Chris Brown & Ed Sheeran Had So Much in Common?
THEIR ALBUMS ARE NAMED X
Chris Brown and Ed Sheeran dropped X last year. Hmm, perhaps we should rephrase: They both released albums named after the 24th letter of the alphabet. It’s Brown’s sixth and Sheeran’s second.
THEY'RE UP FOR THE SAME NUMBER OF GRAMMYS
The singers stand to walk away with three gramophones on Sunday night. Brown is nominated for best urban contemporary album, best R&B song and best R&B performance, while Sheeran could take honors for best pop vocal album and album of the year, plus an award for the song he wrote for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.
THEY SING ABOUT HOTEL SEX
Yes, really. Sheeran touches on the topic on “Don’t,” recalling a woman who cheated on him while they were “staying on the same hotel floor.” Brown’s take on away-from-home booty is slightly racier. On “Love More,” he brags about his abilities: “We do it like rock stars/ Sexing in my hotel room.”
THEY ARE SINGERS AND SONGWRITERS
Both albums, while sonically are very different, each feature the singers playing a dominant role as songwriters. They have credits on all the tracks. In the process, both X releases have a personalized stamp.
