Couture week in Paris is winding down, as Chanel showed its collection on Monday and editors begin to depart the City of Light and return to their daily grind. And if it felt a little quieter than usual, there’s a reason for that: A conspicuous absence of KenGi. Despite being the most ubiquitous supermodels in the business right now, Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid did not walk a single runway during this round of shows. Which has us wondering, can couture week really be the same without the two biggest It girls in the modeling world?

Given that this year’s couture week fell during Fourth of July, there was obviously a conflict of interest for Gigi, who has made a tradition of attending BFF Taylor Swift‘s annual America-themed long weekend festivities. And proving her squad always comes first, the model made the decision to join in on the most Instagrammable event of the year, skipping the runway in favor of hitting the beaches of Rhode Island with the singer and her bevy of A-list besties, donning a flag-themed onesie to pose in front of fireworks, and wearing matching red, white, and blue Solid & Striped swimsuits with Swift and Fendi EyeShine sunglasses. After all, ain’t no party like a “Taymerica” party. (She did send her sister Bella as a Hadid High Fashion ambassador, though — the newest face of Dior beauty walked for the brand.)

Across the country, Kendall also chose to skip the biggest week in fashion in favor of some patriotic partying. The model attended an event hosted by Bootsy Bellows at Nobu in Malibu on Monday wearing a casual all-white look consisting of a high-necked, vintage-inspired top with sheer lace panels, tiny denim OnexOneTeaspoon cut-offs, circle sunglasses, hoops, and the footwear of choice for off-duty models, a pair of white, low-top sneakers.

Even Karl can’t get between a couple of all-American girls and their favorite national holiday.
