It’s a position many of us find ourselves in every day: Jimmy Kimmel has insulted your family’s honor with a humorous sketch, and you’ve retaliated by sending out a series of tweets, including one that depicts the late-night host as Spongebob Squarepants. Now Kimmel has invited you on to his show to talk it out. What do you wear?

Kanye West found himself in just such a predicament Wednesday night, but he rose to the occasion nobly. He left behind his more fashion-forward outfits for a more “everyman” ensemble of artfully shredded jeans and a blue henley top (see it here), which he informed Kimmel was by “Ralph.” He did not even get a new grill for the occasion, wearing his three-year-old standby. His favorite fringed moccasins ensured that his feet were comfortable, even if the conversation wasn’t.

Love Kim Kardashian had an even greater outfit challenge: How to support beau West while looking classy, sexy, serious and motherly all at once? Proving love can conquer even the toughest wardrobe hurdle, she achieved all of the above in a fitted ensemble that didn’t bare too much skin, in studious navy paired with (truly fabulous) thigh-high cognac boots.

So be sure to bookmark this page for the next time you find yourself in a “rap feud” with a talk-show host. West and Kardashian have set the gold standard for just such an occasion for years to come. Do you agree? Tell us in the comments.
