The trend: A sequin jacket
Main takeaway: When wearing one major statement piece, keep the rest of the look simple and polished.
Overall experience: A blazer is a great thing to throw on over any outfit to instantly look more professional. Since the shape is so office-friendly, I figured it was fine to wear a sequin-covered version for a holiday party, even if it is a lot of sparkle. The sequins on this jacket are gold, but since the material is black, the jacket looks dark and chic, instead of too bright or metallic. The key thing to remember with any statement piece: keep the rest of you your look simple. I opted for a plain black dress and pumps to make sure the overall outfits was more workplace than Vegas.
Verdict: Swapping your go-to black blazer for a sparkly version is an easy way to look both holiday and office appropriate!

The trend: A sequin jumpsuit
Main takeaway: Don’t be afraid of allover embellishment
Overall experience: Of course I was on board from the start in testing out this trend! I’m like a six-year-old girl in that I love anything and everything sparkly — like most women (right?). But when I found out I would be trying a sequin jumpsuit, I was a little more nervous than excited. I mean, a sequin top or heels, sure! But allover and on a jumpsuit? Well, I was (admittedly) wrong about the whole thing because turns out, this look was an instant hit. In black, the sequins were more subdued, yet added just enough shimmer. And in a matching hue, my tux blazer made this office party-appropriate. I threw on my go-to burgundy suede pumps and a deep berry lip (my fave — Rebel by M.A.C) for a holiday-perfect finishing touch, and just a pop of color.
Verdict: An all-black outfit is always a safe bet, but don’t shy away from the sparkle — whether you opt for a risk-taking onesie, or just a subtle hint.

The trend: Sparkly shoes
Main takeaway: Pair trendy shoes with an otherwise classic outfit
Overall experience: These high-heeled, sparkly, open-toed booties are probably not most women’s average office shoe, but the black glitter is so perfect for holiday parties. To keep my whole outfit from feeling too trendy, I paired these open-toed booties with a simple black dress in a classic shape. Then I added a pop of color with my red bag, and a statement necklace to add a little detail to the dress. Since the rest of my outfit is understated, it doesn’t feel over-the-top to have a really bold shoe.
Verdict: Shoes are a great way to add a little holiday sparkle without feeling too flashy.
