Who Tried It: Lena Finkel, Editorial Assistant

What Is It: The newest lip products that claim to last longer, look brighter and go on smoother

Why I Did It: As a lipstick addict, I’m always willing to trick out my pout with new sticks, glosses and lacquers. And with the new spring shades boasting to be better (and more innovative) than fall’s collections, I knew I had to put them to the test

Level of Difficulty: 1 (I could apply lipstick in my sleep, but picking out the right shade is a little more difficult!)

The Claim: Not quite a lipstick, not a quite gloss, Too Faced’s latest shades claim to melt on your lips to give a bold splash of color without any cakey residue

The Verdict: I went for the brightest shade, Metallic Macaroon, and literally everyone in the office noticed. I’ve never received so many compliments in one day. The felt tip helped the color go on smoothly and the lipstick not only survived lunch, but also my second cup of afternoon coffee.

The Claim: The new “wax-free technology” makes for high impact shine while remaining lightweight

The Verdict: This lacquer is definitely not for a lipstick newbie — it took a bit of skill to apply to avoid entering clown-face territory. But once perfected, the “Fire Opal” shade was absolutely beautiful. Even better, it wasn’t sticky like gloss so I could wear it all day without feeling the need to constantly smack my lips together.

The Claim: Intense, conditioning moisture without any of the stickiness

The Verdict: CoverGirl wasn’t joking about the Lip Lava formula moisturizing your pout. (Keep this gloss in your rotation, and your Chapstick is going to star to feel pretty lonely.) But if you’re going to wear it every day, I would suggest choosing a more subdued shade. I selected the bright pink Lychee Lava, which is the perfect finishing touch for a girls’ night out look, not the office.

The Claim: The lipstick not only claims to have vivacious shades, but also says to give you lasting hydration

The Verdict: The stick went on smooth thanks to the exclusive formula which features jojoba and mimosa butters, sunflower wax and silicone, and it made me feel super fancy. (Who doesn’t love wearing Chanel?!) It even lasted until 3 p.m. before I had to reapply. And the lipstick provided a rich, full color. It’s now definitely at the top of my rotation.
