As the new faces of Carol’s Daughter, Cassie, Selita Ebanks and Solange Knowles are representing the beauty of multiracial women everywhere. And it’s not just about skincare and makeup — it’s about luscious, sometimes-hard-to-tame locks, too. “From the time I was born ’til probably about 12 years old, my hair was pin straight,” Cassie says in the clip above. “And I prayed every night that I had hair like my mom’s,” which was lush and curly. “As soon as I hit puberty, my hair started to curl,” she continues. “Now it’s going back the other way.” Knowles, who went from a long, straight style to a shaved head to a fro, says she enjoys seeing the reactions to her changing looks. “Cutting my hair … it doesn’t even feel brave,” she says. “To me, [it’s] just another outlet of expression. It’s funny to see the social response, their interpretations of what a haircut, what a hair change means.” Hear more from the new hair and makeup models in the clip above.
