At this point, we can hardly keep track of Gigi Hadid’s résumé. She’s one of the most sought after bikini models, the new face of Topshop and now, the 20-year-old is adding another major title to her impressive career: leading lady. She stars in V magazine‘s latest online collaboration — a short film by fashion photographer and director Sebastian Faena, which is part of mag’s Summer Edition issue. Lucky for you, we’ve got a sneak peek of the mini movie, below.
The short film, titled Those Wrecked By Success, features the supermodel tapping into the role of an actress going through her morning the day after winning her first-ever Oscar. What’s the twist? Hadid’s character merely moves through the motions of life (and in her Hollywood mansion overlooking the Valley) unfazed after achieving her monumental goals.
This marks Hadid’s first acting job. Spoiler: She’s a natural.
“We filmed without rehearsing — Gigi was an actress from the first shot, and an extremely talented one. You believe her — the way she looks, the way she moves, the way she speaks. There’s something very real,” Faena said in a statement. “I think people might be surprised by how good [of] an actress she is. The film was ultimately inspired by her. She was the only person that could play this part, I wrote it with her in my mind.”
Faena said he also drew inspiration from Terry O’Neill’s iconic photo of Faye Dunaway and a 1975 foreign film, Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du commerce, 1080 Bruxelles, which is about a woman who completes “simple activities as part of a routine that she performs every day, while her life remains, uneventful.”
