WATCH: Bold Beauty Risks Kate Hudson, Sophia Bush and More Celebs Took on the Red Carpet

Posted on

Stars haven’t been playing it safe when it comes to color on the red carpet.

Everyone from Mandy Moore to Kate Hudson has been sporting a punchy color on their pouts, which you’d probably be surprised to hear is incredibly easy to pull off, according to PEOPLE’s Beauty Editor Jackie Fields.

“Anyone can feel kinda like, ‘Oh, it’s not my best day’ and pop on a bold lip and look like a million bucks,” she said on People Now.

Hudson’s vampy wine-colored matte lip color she wore to the 2017 SAG Awards is still getting plenty of buzz because of the risk she took wearing it.

“What I did love is that she took a risk,” PEOPLE’s Style & Beauty Director Andrea Lavinthal said on People Now. “We’re used to seeing Kate Hudson with like, the nude gloss and for her to do something that’s totally out of the beauty box was kind of fun.”

When it comes to experimenting with daring shades — like pinks, purples and blues — on your lids like Sophia Bush did with her hot pink smoky eye at the 2017 Screen Actors Guild Awards, they key is to use a light hand and not overdo it.

“The key to pulling this look off honestly is you need that distance between her neckline and that color because otherwise it would be a crazy, crazy wash of pink,” Fields said. “It wasn’t too, too much pink. [But] definitely a risk.”
