We’re about to hit the halfway mark of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, and it’s no surprise that the Ralph Lauren Opening Ceremony cardigans are already sold out on the company’s website. But if you’re eager to cheer on Team USA in the official garb worn by the athletes, you can still get your hands on the patriotic topper … under one condition: You’re willing to drop some serious cash.
How much cash? Thousands of dollars. The brightly patterned sweaters — which are meant to represent “classic Americana patchwork quilts and sweaters,” according to the company’s EVP David Lauren — are selling on eBay for a much greater amount than their retail price of $595 (and we thought that was a hefty pricetag!). One listing on eBay has a “Buy It Now” price of $7,495.00. So far, 21 offers have been made, but no one’s nabbed it yet. Other sellers are pricing the sweaters from $1,000 and up.
And while the cardis certainly are eye-catching — and they definitely look warm — that’s a lot to shell out if you’re not making Shaun White-style endorsement dollars. What do you think? Are you a fan of the sweater? What’s the most you’d pay for it?
