It’s the Oscars of fashion, so who got tapped for this year’s CFDA nominations? Announced by CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg (who posed for pics with Nadja Swarovski), the list included some of the industry’s biggest names, including Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs and Donna Karan. “American fashion designers continue to prove their creative mettle,” says Steven Kolb, executive director of the CFDA. “This year’s nominees and honorees truly represent the depth of great accomplishment and immense talent.” To wit, the nominees for Womenswear Designer of the Year include Alexander Wang, Marc Jacobs and Donna Karan. Other award nominees include up-and-comers like Jason Wu, nominated for the Swarovski Award for Womenswear, Tom Ford, nominated for Menswear Designer of the Year, and designers Lazaro Hernandez & Jack McCollough of Proenza Schouler, nominated for Accessory Designer of the Year. The event on June 7 at Lincoln Center, sponsored by Swarovski, will also award a special tribute to the late great Alexander McQueen, the Lifetime Achievement Award to Michael Kors, and will hold a popular vote award giving the public an opportunity to vote for their favorite designer, sponsored by L’Oreal Paris and WWD.
