Earlier this week we told you about Tim McGraw’s first-ever fragrance, McGraw by Tim McGraw, which will hit stores this August — and we’ve gotten the chance to chat exclusively with the country superstar about his foray into the world of fragrance. Tim admits that he didn’t know much about cologne until he started working on his signature scent with Coty two years ago. “I didn’t know about notes and olfactory pyramids — they look like the old high school food pyramids,” McGraw tells PEOPLE. “To be able to pick and choose what I liked and combine them was actually turned out to be a lot of fun!” But as involved as he was in the creative process, McGraw admits he couldn’t have done it without a little help from his wife, Faith Hill. “I had my wife’s input. She sat there with me with every sample we had. The hottest woman in the world — I wanted her to like it,” he explains. “I wanted something that wasn’t overpowering. And something that had a very masculine, manly kind of smell to it. But something that was sensual enough for women to like.” And he admits he’s never been a big cologne wearer — until he created his own, that is. “I think it’s something that everyone can wear. My wife loves wearing it, actually. And she likes it on me.” We don’t doubt that one bit!
