L’Oréal Paris is ringing in the new year with a new brand ambassador: Susan Sarandon!

The French beauty giant has tapped the 69-year-old actress as its newest international spokeswoman and announced the collaboration on Instagram Friday morning.

For her part, Sarandon is thrilled to join the glamorous team: “When L’Oréal Paris and Cyril [Chapuy, L’Oréal Paris brand global president] first approached me, I was so flattered. The brand has always been a leader in helping in the empowerment and development of women,” Sarandon said in a statement. “The very first time I heard ‘Because I’m Worth It,’ it definitely was a shift in the framing of why you should look good. It had to do with women becoming the master of their own lives and decisions. It’s an extremely powerful statement that has transcended time.”

She added: “Beauty comes from the inside; it’s a state of mind. I’m proud to be a part of their message and to represent the L’Oréal Paris women.”

So what does being “Worth It” mean to Sarandon?

“The emphasis is not on becoming more attractive to lure somebody in, but to be all you can be because you love beauty and you love yourself and want to treat yourself well,” she told British Vogue in a recent interview. “How you spend your energy is ultimately what creates who you are. All of the L’Oréal ambassadors have careers, and are concerned about things outside of themselves, and most of them are raising children. So they’re very well-rounded and thoughtful, conscious, present, modern women.”

As L’Oréal’s latest “Woman of Worth,” Sarandon starred in a sassy, short clip for the beauty brand in which she shares why she’s “worth it,” (hint: it involves motherhood) and then quickly revealed, laughing, that in fact, she totally stalks her children (all three of them!) on social media.

“I went there very reluctantly, but there were so many people out there saying they were me [on social media], so I had to verify it,” she said of her recent foray into social media. “With Instagram, my kids were so very angry with me because I wasn’t where they could send me things, and that’s why my account is @susanlovesjack, because my son made me do it!” (Now, even her dog has a Twitter account!)

In her new role, Sarandon will be the face of the brand’s Age Perfect skincare and hair color ranges, and she says it’s been fun to integrate the brand’s core products into her current skincare routine, which is fairly simple, she shares.

“‘Regime,’ like ‘skincare regime’ is one of those words which I haven’t really integrated into my life,” she confessed to British Vogue. “Things that I do regularly are to put on my sunblock, keep my face clean and use moisturizer. I’m starting to educate myself to the wide range of products L’Oréal has. I love the Age Perfect range, that’s the big one for me I think. You could stand a spoon in the moisturizer and it would stay upright it’s so thick, and you could practically eat it it’s so rich.”

But, she adds, she also thanks her healthy diet and lifestyle for her youthful complexion: “Really it’s about eating proper fruits and vegetables, drinking lots of water and — most importantly — not smoking cigarettes.”

Sarandon joins an A-list cast of fellow Loréalistas, including Julianne Moore, Blake Lively, Eva Longoria, Naomi Watts and Karlie Kloss, to name a few.
