From bold hues to baby hairs, here’s how to get in on the glam
If you want healthy, shiny hair, it’s essential that you start with your scalp, says New York City-based dermatologist Dr. Francesca Fusco. “If the hair follicles on your scalp aren’t nourished, it could lead to premature shedding, among other problems.” And while we all love the convenience of dry shampoo, you should lather up with the real stuff at least twice a week to remove dirt, oil and product buildup, in addition to using treatments that encourage growth and alleviate scalp-specific issues.

GRAPHIC CAT EYES
Your typical winged liner is about to get a major makeover, thanks to this celeb-coveted cut-out, graphic look, which Lily Collins and Emma Watson each rocked renditions of recently.
To recreate Collins’ look, her makeup artist, Fiona Stiles tells PeopleStyle that a magnifying mirror, a good liquid eyeliner, and a steady hand are key. The pro says she perfected the look “by lightly sketching out the shape with a very freshly sharpened traditional black kohl eyeliner. Then I went over it with a liquid liner.” Then, she cleaned up the lines with tiny cotton buds to create a sharp edge.
PINK EYE SHADOW
The on-again-off-again eye shadow trend is having a moment — and this time, all shades of pink are fair game. Give it an edgy spin with a bright hue like Sophia or Kelly’s, or go for a girlier vibe with a bubblegum shade like Lea’s.
Pink hues are universally flattering, and when they have a little shine, they make your look fresh and dewy, says Holmes’s makeup artist Genevieve Herr. Just be sure to seek out sheer formulas, suggests Reese’s pro Molly R. Stern. “If you do, you can wear almost any shade.”
Celebrity makeup artists have been hard at work creating their own palettes that they know their clients – and fans – will swoon over. In fact, two of the Kardashians’ pros, Hrush Achemyan and Mario Dedivanovic, have teamed with Tarte (left) and Anastasia Beverly Hills (right) respectively to co-create a mix of wearable colors. And Daniel Martin curated shades with his client Jessica Alba’s Honest Beauty brand (not pictured).
The hottest makeup color right now is pomegranate, according to Alison Hahn, Sephora vice president of merchandising, color. Hahn points out that like the fruit, product hues can range from light to dark berry but always have an underlying pop of fuchsia. Adds makeup artist Mary Phillips, who recently gave Chrissy Teigen a pretty pomegranate lip: “It’s a supersexy shade that livens up any skin tone.”
Use bedtime as beauty time with these new treatments that work while you sleep, says PEOPLE style and beauty director Andrea Lavinthal. Estée Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair Recovery Ampoules instantly soothe stressed-out skin, while Lancôme’s Energie de Vie Sleeping Mask contains a mix of energizing antioxidants to leave you looking wide awake in the morning.
The latest trend is masking involves iron-infused formulas that use magnets to remove the mask — rather than water – leaving behind the beneficial ingredients that would typically get washed away. Both Dr. Brandt and Dr. Lancer’s masks provide anti-aging benefits (and the fun process of removing the mask with a magnet). Deputy style director Sharon Clott Kanter says of Dr. Brandt’s, “This made my skin look brighter and feel tighter instantly.”
The metallic statement eye is having a moment because “the warm tones highlight the eyes,” says makeup artist Mary Jane Frost. “It’s like wearing jewelry on your lids!” Try it out with one of these formulas.
This rich violet shade is a mix of moody and modern, making it the perfect complement to your fall wardrobe.
Wearing the same shades on your eyes, lips and cheeks is a sophisticated way to enhance all of your features at once. Choose neutrals that complement your natural skin tone. If you want to dial up the drama a bit, go for a peach, rose or berry palette.

Great news: Those flyaway strands around your hairline that you hate are totally in style now, thanks to Minka Kelly, Nicole Richie, and of course the original trendsetter, Jennifer Lopez (Richie even named hers after the singer). The trick to making them work? Use a toothbrush and Gorilla Snot Gel to comb those bad boys down and plaster them in place, says Jen Atkin.

BABY PINK NAILS
According to stars like Kendall Jenner, Salma Hayek and Bella Hadid, ’90s tendrils are back in full force — but the right products are key. “Nothing is worse than just a few greasy or crunchy strands flying free,” says Jen Atkin, who recommends misting the strands with dry shampoo for soft texture. Triple down on the trend by wearing them with a good ponytail and choker, says Atkin.
