Spring Mani Ideas Inspired by Stars
GIGI HADID'S HOT ORANGE
Manicurist Mar y Sol Inzerillo knew “Gigi’s bronzed, glowy skin would look great with a pop of color on her nails,” so she suggested this vivid shade. “It’s bright like the sun!” Keeping the model’s tips “squoval: basically a square nail with the edges rounded off a bit,” Inzerillo sealed the color with a strong top coat (she likes Dermelect’s Memento Manicure Extender).

DIANE KRUGER'S NUDE MANICURE
“Diane’s dress was already full of texture and glam so we decided on a classic golden/beige color,” explains tenoverten manicurist Jessica Duarte. “She preferred a rounded nail shape which I think is so elegant.” The best part about this nude shade, says the pro, is that “it will easily go with any bright pieces in your summer wardrobe!”

ANNA KENDRICK'S HINT OF GLITTER
“Anna asked for a sheer neutral – as she did not want her polish shade to contrast with her dress,” says her manicurist Michelle Saunders. To add “a bit more glitz” to the look, Saunders suggested “a subtle hint of glitter at the base” and added it (using a dotting tool) to every nail. “Be sure to use top coat under and over the dot to firmly secure it in place.”

MARY J. BLIGE'S BOLD YELLOW
Blige hit Cannes with a bang, rocking a beautifully beaded gown and vibrant yellow nails. “When summer comes around, Mary likes a pop of color. This is one of her go-to shades,” says manicurist Lisa Logan, adding, “I love that she is not afraid to wear brights.” But when wearing a striking shade, Logan cautions, make sure it “compliments your other accessories.”

EMMY ROSSUM'S METALLIC ACCENT
Emmy Rossum’s hair jewelry wasn’t the only thing that had us buzzing when she hit the CFDA red carpet. The star complemented her sheer-sleeve halter dress with a nude nail accented with an asymmetrical metallic gray strip. Says her manicurist, butter LONDON Global Colour Ambassador Katie Jane Hughes, “I wanted to keep Emmy s nails elegant and expensive looking! The pop of dark grey keeps the nail look at bit rebellious and cool for summer.” Using a thin striping brush, Hughes applied the dark tone to the outside corner of each nail. As with any “expensive” nail look, don’t be afraid to treat yourself to a salon visit to get it just right.

SARAH HYLAND'S BRIGHT WHITE NAILS
“This is my favorite time to pull out the whites,” says manicurist Christina Aviles, who used a EssieGel in Blizzard so the actress could show off the shade for a while. To achieve this look at home, Saunders advises, layering different white polishes since the thinner ones are typically easier to apply. Start by applying one coat of a thinner white polish such as Essie Marshmallow, followed by a one full coverage coat of Essie Blanc.”

FREIDA PINTO'S ORANGE CRUSH
“Freida was looking for something fresh to match with her outfit,” says manicurist Emi Kudo, who picked out a coral-y orange to complement the warm tones in Pinto’s dress. She kept the bright choice chic by giving the actress short nails that were rounded at the corners.

ANNE HATHAWAY'S DASH OF SILVER
If you thought metallics had an expiration date of January 2, check out notice-me tips. Her nail pro Emi Kudo says the star “likes to be playful on her nails.” The color can really pop against certain spring ensembles, but the key is to pair it with a neutral outfit (and not your favorite poppy-colored sun dress) like the actress did, to keep it out of mistletoe territory.

OLIVIA MUNN'S NUDE NAILS
Going matchy-matchy can be very classy. Just look at Olivia Munn, whose “smoky rose” mani was inspired by her nude lip. Want to find a tone that makes a sexy statement? Suggests Munn’s manicurist Emi Kudo: “Use a nude color slightly brighter or darker than your skin tone, so the color stands out moderately.” Buy It! Dior “Incognito,” sephora.com, $27
MILA KUNIS'S PALE PINK
Tired of accessorizing your black tie attire with a dark or glitzy mani? They try an opaque, neutral tone like Essie’s Essiegel in Dance Class, which manicurist Christina Aviles used on because the star “wanted a pretty, neutral shade that would complement more than one or two looks.” This gel shade can only be recreated professionally (in high-end salons and spas), but traditionalists “can achieve this look using Essie’s classic shade, Ballet Slippers,” says Aviles.

KALEY CUOCO-SWEETING'S PASTEL NAILS
The actress’s sheer blue-gray mani with an accent (her ring finger nails are sheer pink) “is a fun but subtle combo,” says manicurist April Foreman, explaining that not only is this “soft palette the perfect transition between winter and summer,” but the twist on a nude nail look “isn’t over the top, so anyone can pull it off.”

MICHELLE WILLIAMS'S SULTRY RED
Need a dose of drama even in spring? Then contrast your ultra-feminine dresses with a dark color like nail pro Carla Kay did for . “This color is worth trying now because it s a little unexpected,” she says ” It s a classic, but people will still be surprised how great a dark nail looks in warmer months. A short nail looks modern while this color on a longer, pointy nail definitely gives a sexy vibe.”

LEA MICHELE'S RED HOT MANI
The finishing touch to "disco chic look"? A red nail that perfectly matched the star’s pumps. "It was our only viable option," said manicurist Jenna Hipp, who ensured the star’s hands shined by highlighting the backs of them using her Pout Polish lipgloss – yes, lipgloss – in Illusion and a foundation brush. "The gloss contains the perfect amount of subtle shimmer which reflects light anywhere on the body for glowing, dewy skin."
