Spice Girls's Style: Then & Now
THE FAB FIVE
Before the weddings, babies, reunions and drama, the Spice Girls were just five fun-loving Brits who popularized platform shoes, microminis, and several questionable hairstyles in the late 1990s. Joining forces in London for the Olympics Closing Ceremony, the ladies showed just how far their sartorial skills have come over the last 15 years. The group performed two of their greatest hits, “Wannabe” and “Spice Up Your Life,” after making an entrance in tricked-out cabs and hot ensembles including Posh’s Giles Deacon gown and Scary Spice’s sparkly nude bodysuit.
Melanie Chisholm (a.k.a. Melanie C.) was the queen of trackpants, sweatshirts and high ponies during the Girls’s first go-around. Now that she’s no longer officially “Sporty” (though she still has a successful singing career), the mom to daughter Scarlet opts for more sophisticated looks like this draped taupe suit, plus a relaxed (and blonder!) do.
With her wild hair and totally out-there outfits, Melanie Brown (a.k.a. Melanie B.) was definitely the most eye-catching of the Fab Five. Since the group split, only her personal life has been scary, including some baby drama with – but the mom of three’s style has evolved quite a bit, becoming surprisingly understated.
We don’t know which was more noteworthy – Geri Halliwell’s flaming red locks or her skintight minis. Though she’s now a mom to daughter Bluebell, the star shows no sign of leaving her body-con apparel behind: She’s often spotted in tiny skirts, bikinis and yes, even a reprise of that famous Union Jack dress, as she pursues a singing and designing career.
earned the moniker “Sexy Spice” (changed to Posh once they hit it big) because of her skimpy ensembles, so it’s funny that she’s now known for clothing Hollywood’s chicest stars. Marriage to , plus four cute kids, has helped transform Posh into the fashion plate she is today.
