Short-haired girls, get psyched: We’ve got a hair tutorial that’s perfect for you. Kérastase hairstylist Matt Fugate stopped by the PeopleStyle offices to show us how to style bob-length locks in a cool new way — with the braided mohawk style previously seen on Jaimie Alexander at the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic.

The celebrity pro, who works with the Blindspot star, as well as January Jones and Karlie Kloss, broke down the edgy style in our “How It’s Done” video series.

To get the look, Fugate first spritzed Kérastase V.I.P. Volume in Powder Dry Volumizing and Texturizing Spray into dry hair to add volume. Before braiding, he created three sections of hair — one on the left side, one in the middle and one on the right side.

Grabbing a side section at the crown, Fugate French-braided hair down to the nape of the neck and secured the finished plait with an elastic. (To create a fuller-looking twist, Fugate recommends gently pulling apart the braid for a slightly undone effect.)

The pro replicated the French braid on the opposite side of the head before moving to the middle part. From there, he sprayed the loose section with Kerastase Laque Noire Extra-Strong Hold Hairspray before splitting it into two smaller parts.

He teased both sections by back-combing strands and then rolled them down and secured with pins. For the finishing touch, the pro tucked the ends of the braids under pins.
