Shay Mitchell Partners with Smashbox To Launch (Quite Possibly) Its Prettiest Eyeshadow Palettes Yet
The actress appears in an enchanting campaign for Smashbox Cosmetics' new eyeshadow collection
In January, Shay Mitchell made a beauty resolution to switch up her makeup “a little bit more.” And so far, the Pretty Little Liars actress has stuck to her word, appearing on social media and various red carpets wearing in a myriad of risk-taking looks that have not only caught our eyes, but also the attention of Smashbox Cosmetics, which is now partnering with the actress on the launch of a breathtaking new eyeshadow collection, Cover Shot: Eye Palettes.
“I’ve always loved makeup,” Mitchell tells PeopleStyle exclusively. “For me, when I get to play around with it, especially eye shadows, I play a different character.”
She notes that she’s long counted Smashbox among her go-to beauty brands. “I’ve always been a fan, so it was really a perfect fit,” she says. “I think a primer was the first thing that I ever bought from them. They have great lip glosses and lipsticks, but I am super stoked about these palettes because they’re different than anything I’ve seen before.”
And to show just how game-changing these palettes are, the brand asked Mitchell to model each one for its campaign video, shot by Smashbox founder Davis Factor. (Check out her versatile looks below.)
“We really wanted to showcase how you can use each palette, so we did something extremely different for each look. It was so much fun,” recalls Mitchell.
Consisting of six eye shadows and two base shades, the intensely-pigmented palettes range from subtle to electrifying, so we asked Shay to give us her take on each stand-out option:
BOLD (top left): “This is great for festivals or parties,” Mitchell says. “It’s truly is a rainbow palette and so bright. It’s something you really want to have fun with and use to make a statement with your eyes.”
ABLAZE (top right): “It’s got really warm tones, like red clay. It would be great for every day, but I love it for night, especially if you make it really bold.”
SMOKY (bottom): “I probably use this and the matte palette the most. But this one is my favorite because I tend to do smoky eyes a lot.”
METALLIC (top left): “This palette is so fun. One of my makeup artists uses eye shadows to actually highlight like cheekbones, and I think you can do with the shades in this palette.”
MATTE (top right): “With this palette, you can create a natural look or go really smoky, which I love because with matte eyeshadows you can get away with a little bit more because there’s no shimmer.”
GOLDEN HOUR (bottom right): “This palette is awesome because it’s bendable. You can create a softer smoky eye, or use the shades [in combination] with the other palettes,” says Mitchell of this mix of matte and shimmer finishes.
SOFTLIGHT (bottom left): “This palette is awesome for girls who don’t want to go too crazy with their makeup and just kind keep it light. For a lot of my friends who are very active this would be their go-to palette because it is just light enough for them because creates just enough of a glow.”
The Cover Shot: Eye Palettes, $29 each, will launch exclusively at Sephora.com on Cyber Monday. We suggest blocking out some time between finishing off those leftover pies to buy every single one — come Tuesday, they’ll be unavailable until they become available again on December 7.
