Kaia Gerber can really whip her hair back and forth. The young model continues to book big magazine gigs, and her latest photo shoot is her most head-turning yet.
Cindy Crawford’s 14-year-old daughter graces the pages of Interview magazine’s October issue, posing as a part of a 60-page portfolio titled “In The Air,” shot by famed photographer Fabien Baron. In the black-and-white shot, Kaia wears a black shirt and leather pants as she serves up a serious expression and her hair fills the frame.
“The portfolio is a personal take on what’s inspiring me at this moment in time,” Baron shared. “The people, places, and projects I’m most excited about — sort of like a mood board that covers a culturally broad spectrum of what I feel ‘in the air’ right now. ”
Proud mom Cindy Crawford shared the striking photo of her daughter on Instagram, writing: “@kaiagerber this what happens when i’m not home to remind you to brush your hair?? via @interviewmag @guidopalau @fabienbaron”
In her new book Becoming, the 49-year-old supermodel shares that she often jokes with Kaia about their strong mother-daughter resemblance.
“I always tease my daughter – who everyone agrees, is a mini-me – and say ‘You have my old hair – I want it back!’ or, ‘You have my old legs – I want them back,'” Crawford wrote. “She just giggles and says ‘It’s my turn now.'”
While promoting Becoming, Crawford told PEOPLE that it’s her job to help guide her daughter as she navigates the critical fashion industry.
“The most important opinion is your own about yourself and I think that’s our job is as a parent is to help build up your kids’ self esteem so that they are their own compass,” she shared. “When people do make negative comments, I just try to help her stop and consider maybe they’re feeling insecure, and not to try to answer it back with that same kind of energy, but to try to just let it go and rise above.”
The teen definitely looks just like her supermodel mom, and she’s already stealing her clothes. “Fortunately for me, she’s not quite tall enough yet and her foot isn’t big enough, but I know she’ll get there and I always tease her because sometimes she’ll wear something of mine and it looks so good on her and I’m like, ‘OK you can just have it. Don’t wear all of my favorite things because I won’t have anything left to wear!'”
