Sarah Jessica Parker Reveals Her Biggest Sex and the City Style Regret (It May Surprise You!)
The designer, who just launched her holiday collection of SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker shoes, talks style, shoes and Sex and the City in The EDIT's cover story
Any woman who’s watched the six seasons and two movies of Sex and the City would hop on the Staten Island Ferry for a chance to raid Carrie Bradshaw’s closet. Sarah Jessica Parker knows that, and admits herself that her biggest regret, looking back on her Carrie days, was not documenting her experiences more. “I wish I had known to take more pictures. I should have photographed every fitting of Sex and the City; every shoe I ever tried on anywhere in the world, ever!” the 51-year-old actress told The EDIT in this week’s cover story.
True, back in the ’90s Snapchat and Instagram madness didn’t exist like it does today, but Parker does regret not taking old fashioned snapshots. “I should have shot those experiences, but I didn’t want to intrude on it or ask, ‘Do you mind if I take your picture?’ Or, ‘Do you mind if I document this?’ Oh, I should have taken more pictures,” she said.
But the star admits she does have one weird habit she did instead to remember her favorite fashion pieces. She names them! “In the first Sex and the City movie, there is a belt that is in almost every scene in that movie,” Parker told The EDIT in a behind-the-scenes mini film. “That belt’s name is Roger. That’s not a myth, that’s the truth!”
To give her fans a small piece of her style, the actress made a call to Manolo Blahnik CEO George Malekmus III to see if he would help create her holiday party shoe collaboration with Net-a-Porter and eponymous shoe line, SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker. His answer? Yes.
“I said, ‘I know this is a crazy long shot, but would you ever consider producing a shoe line with me?’ He replied, ‘Be at my office tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m.'”
This wasn’t the first time Parker’s partnered with Manolo Blahnik, either. The fashion mogul lent her name to the designer for a pair of his iconic heels, which Parker admits, she’s never actually worn. “Manolo did name a pair of shoes after me. It’s very strappy. I, of course, never wore it because it was too special and a family heirloom. So it’s never been worn,” she said.
The ever-stylish star also knows the power of a fashionable look, and hopes other women use their closet as an escape to transform into the best version of themselves.
“Anytime you are in a fitting, it’s very much about you becoming something else, and sometimes it’s a familiar place, but sometimes it’s completely pretend,” Parker said. “Fashion makes me feel like the other version of myself, like Sunday best. I think a lot of other women want to feel that.”
