Luann D’Agostino — née Countess Luann de Lesseps — has shared her love story with her now-husband Tom over the last two seasons of The Real Housewives of New York (currently in its ninth season on Bravo). It’s Wedding Week here at People Style, so we couldn’t think of a better person than the newlywed (the couple wed this past New Year’s Eve, also Tom’s 50th birthday) and Class With the Countess author to talk all things etiquette with us, from what colors to avoid wearing as a guest, to whether inviting exes is off limits, to if it’s really okay to share that engagement ring photo on social media. Don’t be all uncool this wedding season — heed Luann’s advice in the Facebook Live video below:

Here are some of LuAnn’s lessons:

-Wearing white to a wedding? That’d be a no. “There are so many other colors,” says Luann. However, she thinks it’s “perfectly acceptable” to wear black, and says “you can bling it up with great jewelry — God knows we love statement jewelry.” (RHONY viewers know Luann loves a good bold necklace.)

-When it comes to going barefoot at the reception, Luann says why not. “Tom’s mother took her shoes off because she was uncomfortable [in her shoes]… it’s a celebration, it’s a time to have fun and enjoy yourself so I don’t frown upon that, I think it’s a part of the scenario.” That said, she’s a fan of a thicker heel or “elegant wedge” that you’ve worn before so you know you’ll be comfortable.

-Although there was no social media allowed at Luann’s wedding, she says it’s up to the bride and groom whether or not they want to allow photos. In their case, they asked the minister to let guests know the rule, saying “you have to listen to a minister… he has to set the stage, or you do, and clarify what’s appropriate.”

-When it comes to gifts, Luann recommends a donation to charity, or a personal gift like the wedding invitation framed or customized champagne glasses. (And fun fact: Her former RHONY costar Kelly Bensimon gave them a “lovely Tiffany vase.”)

-Although she typically wears Robert Piguet Fracas or Jo Malone fragrance, her mother-in-law bought her Chanel No. 5 before her wedding, so that’s what she wore for the big day as her something new.

-As far as inviting exes, Luann thinks it’s totally fine to invite someone you’re on good terms with. In fact, her ex, Jacques Azoulay, came to her wedding, and she invited her ex-husband Alexandre de Lesseps as well, although he did not attend. “Of course the Count is so elegant, he gracefully declined,” she said.

-If the invitation says “casual,” Luann sticks to the old adage that it’s better to be overdressed than underdressed.

-Posting the ring on social media: Do or don’t? Luann is pro ring photo, “because I wanted to have control of how the picture looked.”

-And where is Luann’s Randi Rahm wedding dress now? It’s being prepped for storage, in the hopes her daughter Victoria might wear it one day. “Not that she would want to wear it, but you never know. I’m keeping that chantilly lace safe and sound.”
