Red-Hot Lip Colors for an Even Hotter Summer
The supermodel selected a high-shine shade, which "dresses up any look," according to Estée Lauder Global Makeup Design Director Victor Henao (who works with Kendall).
The model’s makeup artist Mary Phillips loves that women are rocking red year-round — and has a sure-fire tip for making your color pop: “I applied a layer [of red] straight from the tube, followed by a layer of coral, then I mixed the two colors together on a palette to form one cohesive shade that I blotted on her lips."
These saturated colors will accentuate chapped lips or cracks, so before applying your lipstick, Phillips recommends exfoliating your pucker first with a moisturizing scrub.

Makeup artist Tyron Machhausen put a tropical spin on an Old Hollywood vibe, creating the look of a "bombshell leaving a yacht in St. Tropez,” he says. His formula? Equal parts sun-kissed skin and a blend of two warm red lipsticks. "I always love to use shades that have a tiny hint of orange in them versus more blue-ish reds [because] they look fresh.”
To achieve the “perfect” shade for Dewan Tatum, Machhausen mixed an orange-red with an apricot color. "I like to start with a base color, in this case the deeper red, followed by a shade that is a little more poppy. I applied the second shade, starting from the middle and blending outwards. The result is a more vivid three dimensional look."

Ciara’s pro Yolanda Frederick opted for a cooler hue to complement the singer’s youthful vibe. "To me, bright reds with blue undertones are always fun,” she says.
Vivid matte shades, such as the one Frederick hand-picked for Ciara, require proper prep and precision. Allow a balm to sink into lips for a few minutes (but blot it off before applying the lipstick) to guarantee your color goes on even. Then apply your formula with a lip brush.

“In summer, a red lip should remind people of your sex appeal, not your Christmas spirit,” explain’s McCarthy’s makeup artist Robin Fredriksz, who chose a cherry — not cheery — red lip to complement her bright outfit.
Fredrickz’s selection is a must-have thanks to its double-duty properties. Use it as a liner and a lipstick — then dab it on your cheeks for a matching blush and lip look.

According to Smith, "the glossy finish gives this look a summery pop." The artist lined Cox's lips "to create and hold the lip shape” before applying a “generous” amount of the liquid lipstick. “It’s a matte finish, and if you apply it as a thin layer it dries down matte. But if you concentrate a little more of it on the center of the mouth, it will have a glossy appearance."

“A red lip allows a girl to feel glamorous without having to try too hard,” says Alves’ makeup artist Patrick Ta, who picked a tube with a twist — the twist being the slight orange tone — which gave it a stamp of approval for summer wear.
Once you’ve selected the perfect hue, “let your lip color be the star,” advises Ta. "Keep your skin dewy and fresh looking, and your eyes bronzy."
