In our weekly roundup of the looks that are gaining fashion ground (and the ones losing their style street cred), we saw a fun twist on the exposed zipper trend, a new way to do embellishments and a shoe-and-skirt combo that doesn’t seem to be a perfect pair.

Up: Exposed Zippers in Unexpected Ways. Is it possible that the zipper, that trusty old standby, could really be part of a hot new trend? This week, it’s on the upswing, thanks to Amanda Seyfried‘s embellished Alexander McQueen dress that has a zipper detail running across her skirt (let’s hope no one tugs on it!) and Crystal Reed’s busy Three Floor dress. It’s a fresh twist on the exposed-zipper trend from a few years ago and a fun way to make something utilitarian more decorative.

Up: Embellishment Fade-Out. Think of this style as an ombré for your clothes. Nina Dobrev dons a highly-decorated Jenny Packham gown that shines brightly along the neckline and then fades out to a pale yellow as it progresses downward. Amanda Seyfried’s McQueen did double duty — it also featured a beaded bodice that scattered off before the hem. Since ombré hair is kinda played out, we’re thinking this could be the new way to wear it.

Down: Chunky Boots With Skirts. Normally, we’re all about GOOP‘s outfits, but this week her chunky footwear and mini seemed a little seasonally outdated, especially compared to the strappy sandals of our other leading ladies. As we don’t see the need for these clunkers as the weather heats up, we don’t expect to see much of them for awhile.

Which of these trends will you try? Which will you skip? Tell us in the comments!
