In our weekly roundup of the looks that are gaining fashion ground (and the ones losing their style street cred), we saw lots of long-overdue color on the red carpet and high slits from practically everyone but Miley Cyrus. One look that we don’t think is going to catch on, however: Baggy, oversized silhouettes. Though we give points for the comfort factor.
Up: Bright colors: After seemingly endless weeks of black-and-white outfits coming down the carpet, the pretty bold hues stars favored this week felt like a breath of fresh air. Elizabeth Banks led the charge in lemon yellow and pretty prints, but we also saw Jessica Alba in radiant pink, Jena Malone in vivid red and Nicole Richie in tropical stripes.
Up: Showing a lot of leg: Jessica Biel led the charge in high-slit Giambattista Valli, but this week, stars found ever-more creative ways to flaunt what they’ve got. Naomie Harris did it in sheer swiss dots. Jennifer Lawrence did it asymmetrically. Alessandra Ambrosio did it in this very artistic way. Ciara participated too. And how could we forget about this Nicole Scherzinger catsuit? Yes, skin was in this week on the red carpet, and we have a feeling that won’t slow down with the holidays approaching.
Down: Oversized, slouchy silhouettes: While we definitely want the Olsens to keep doing their thing, regular mortals will likely not be attempting this look. While effortless elegance is always chic, unhemmed skirts are not.
