Red Carpet Trend Report: The Scoop on Abstract Florals, Lace Crop Tops and a Sweater Too Crazy for this Weather

In our weekly roundup of the looks that are gaining fashion ground (and the ones losing their style street cred), we saw tons of smudged-out flowers, delicate midriffs and a neckline we didn’t expect to see back again until fall.
Up: Abstract Florals. Florals never really go out of style, they just take on a different look. During the spring, dark designs took over the scene, and as we transition into summer, the print has gotten a little more artsy. When we first saw the photo of Kelly Osbourne (left) we thought that the photographer had just snapped her in motion, yet upon closer inspection, we noticed that it was actually the blurred print on her black-and-purple Vera Wang dress. The style also popped up this week on Kaley Cuoco’s matching crop top-and-pants set as well as Maggie Gyllenhaal’s Peter Som open-back halter. It may be a bit hard on the eyes, but it is definitely a trend we can get behind.
Up: Lace Crop Tops. If you didn’t think that it was possible for this trend to be any more revealing, you might want to take a look at some of your favorite leading ladies this week. Nicole Richie (center) showed up for an event in Vegas wearing some very on-trend Alberta Ferretti wide-leg pants, but what really caught our attention was her mint lace crop top that revealed a white bra underneath. Gabrielle Union also showed off her abs (and lingerie) this week in a black piece with a coordinating pencil skirt. You know that the stars love finding new ways to show off skin, so prepare to see this style take off in the near future.
Down: Turtlenecks. Yes, we do realize that this is probably the most obvious down trend in the world right now, but we just couldn’t wrap our heads around the fact that Sienna Miller (right) was wearing one in June! While many celebs were putting their décolletage on display, the actress covered up with a slouchy black turtleneck. Though she still looks chic, we think she needs to hang this piece back up in her closet until a less sweaty moment.
