Red Carpet Standouts: Then & Now
Twenty years ago, the kept covered up in full-length crushed velvet. These days, the Gravity star, 49, is more comfortable flashing skin. “She’s very fashion forward,” says stylist Deborah Waknin of Bullock, whose Lanvin gown showed off killer legs and toned arms at the SAG Awards.
The fresh-faced 25-year-old looked sweet in a dress fit for prom back in 1999. But this year, the American Hustle , 39, proved she’s capable of sexier fare, donning a plunging Antonio Berardi gown at the SAG Awards. Says former stylist Cristina Erlich, “She’s a perfectionist!”
The Blue Jasmine , 44, worked a geisha-punk look back in 2006. “She doesn’t care what anyone thinks,” says stylist Elizabeth Stewart of the Aussie actress, who opted for Givenchy at the SAG Awards. “She stays true to her style no matter her age.”
Back in 2008, the unknown teen hit the Venice Film Festival in cerulean silk. Now, at 23, the American Hustle Best Supporting Actress (seen here at the Golden Globes) has a regular red carpet secret weapon: “It’s really all Dior.”
“I don’t understand fashion or follow the trends,” said the August: Osage County star, 64, who wore head-to-toe gold in 1983 to collect an Oscar for Sophie’s Choice. Thirty years later, in keeping with her monochromatic color scheme, Streep went all-black at this year’s SAG Awards.
The has always had a flair for funky fashion – even back in her Steel Magnolia days. “Julia loves quirky twists on menswear,” her stylist, Elizabeth Stewart, said of the 46-year-old August: Osage County star, who wore an unconventional Dolce & Gabbana dress at the Golden Globes. “Her style is very low key.”
