RAMONA'S RUNWAY DEBUT
It may have been Brooklyn Fashion Week, but that doesn’t make Ramona Singer’s “crazy eyes” catwalk debut in the Loris Diran show in season 3 any less legendary. The whole experience is best described by Jill Zarin: “When Ramona walked out it looked like an alien invaded her body. She walked like a robot with her neck sticking out like a giraffe and her eyes bulging. I mean, it was hysterical.” Not to mention, infinitely GIF-able.
FRONT ROW FIGHTING
We all know the iconic line that came out of season 3 from Bethenny Frankel during her confrontation with Luann de Lesseps at the Pamella Roland show: “I don’t trust you and I think you’re a snake.” (Some things never change.) And as if that conversation wasn’t awkward enough, Kelly Bensimon traded seats so Bethenny and Luann ended up sitting side by side for the entire show.
Ramona was so unfazed by her wild-eyed runway walk, she gave the gig another go in season 4 with fashion designer David Meister. And you better bet the other housewives wouldn’t miss a chance to see her second go-around in person. “I gotta give it to David Meister,” said Luann. “Having Ramona walk down the runway took a lot of guts.”
FLEEING THE (SECOND ROW) SCENE
When a New York housewife chooses to grace a show with her presence, she expects loaned designer clothing and primo seating. So you can guess what Jill Zarin did at the Luca Luca show when she saw that she was seated behind Ramona in second row: She grabbed her bag and her “gay husband” Brad and fled the scene. “If I don’t sit front row, I’m not going,” she announced.
Sonja Morgan finally felt ready to “wow people” with her clothing collection so she decided to host a fashion show to debut her line in season 7. We should have known by her disastrous model casting with Bethenny and Heather Thomson that the show was doomed. The dresses weren’t put on the correct models, she screamed at her employee backstage, the guests were kept waiting for ages and most importantly, the hairdresser didn’t listen to Sonja’s orders and “not one person has a chignon here!” (To be fair, the clothes did make it down the runway and her friends were happy for her, but we can never forgive the hairdresser for depriving us of “the chignons.”)
Ramona has said it time and time again — she knows she puts her foot in her mouth more than she should. At the Alice + Olivia presentation in season 1 she proved it by saying, “I think modeling is not really using your brains so much.” She not only insulted the model sitting next to her, but one-time model Luann as well. Needless to say, her alter ego “The Apologizer” swooped in for damage control.
PRE-SHOW SHOULDER RUBS
Husbands don’t tend to tag along to shows during fashion week, but Simon and Alex McCord are not any ordinary couple. Simon sat behind Alex at the Pamella Roland show in season 1 and gave her shoulder rubs before the show. And yes, their castmates were freaked out. “They’re attached at the hip” said Bethenny. “They are totally co-dependent.”
FRONT ROW VULTURES
It’s not a proper Real Housewives episode if the cast isn’t arguing at inopportune times. But Simon hovering over Ramona at the Russell Simmons fashion show in season 2 was uncomfortable for many reasons (among them Ramona calling him too feminine, while he circled her awkwardly). As Kelly said, “We’re at the front row of a fashion show, we can talk about it later.”
In season 1, when Ramona’s daughter Avery wouldn’t let her leave the house to attend a Missoni fashion show wearing a skimpy, lingerie-like top, Ramona didn’t take no for an answer. Even after Avery hid it from her, she smuggled the dress in her handbag and switched tops in the car.
BUMP ON THE RUNWAY
Bethenny walked in the Heart Truth Red Dress fashion show in 2010 with one very special accessory: her baby bump, which she showed off in a skintight gown. She said of her curves at the time: “I love it. I love pregnancy and the bump and the whole thing.”
