Pretty Plaits! Shay Mitchell, Karolina Kurkova and More Stars Take Their Beachy Braids to the Red Carpet

Here's your weekend hair inspiration

It’s still warming up on the east coast, but for Hollywood’s elite, it’s summer year round. So it makes sense that stars constantly sport warm-weather hair and makeup looks — even on the red carpet. Wednesday night’s biggest beauty trend? Beachy braids, courtesy of Shay Mitchell, Karolina Kurkova and Britt Robertson.

For the world premiere of Mother’s Day, L.A. cool girl Shay Mitchell turned to celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton for an undone, tousled plait to pair with her plunging, embellished lattice pattern gown. The laid-back look featured wispy, face-framing pieces that were pulled out of the braid to create a more relaxed style.

The Pretty Little Liars star teamed the festival-ready look with super-glowy skin and a pale pink lip by her main makeup man, celebrity makeup artist Patrick Ta.

Supermodel Karolina Kurkova also opted for a single wispy braid with a few face-framing pieces in the front. What’s interesting about the star’s plait is that it’s actually a four-strand twist, created by hairstylist and braid master Lacy Redway for the star’s cameo at the First Monday in May premiere in N.Y.C..

To team with the laid-back plait, makeup artist Steffi Willmann opted for a pink-toned lip and cheek moment for a truly summer look.

And rounding out last night’s plait-filled red carpet is actress Britt Robertson, who showed off a side-swept style with a tightly twisted French braid woven on one side of her head, at the Mother’s Day premiere in Hollywood.

The braided do was courtesy of celebrity hairstylist Christian Wood, who also works with stars including Amy Adams, Sophie Turner and more. For the night’s look, he accented Robertson’s half-up style with soft, subtle waves, which paired perfectly with her shimmery copper smoky eye by makeup artist Lucy Halperin.
