PEOPLE Sent Me to the Oscars – and I Had the Best. Time. Ever.
THAT'S THE TICKET!
Longtime PEOPLE subscriber Melissa Kiebort got the surprise of her life in December when she was picked by PEOPLE editorial director Jess Cagle to go to the Oscars as the magazine’s guest. “I am so excited and this is going to be amazing!” she said at the time. “It will be a lifetime memorable experience and I plan to make the most of it.” And that she did.
IN THE BAG
Days before the awards, on Feb. 18, Philadelphia-based Melissa is packed and ready to go to L.A. “I am in disbelief the Oscars are here,” she tells PEOPLE. “So excited!”
Another must: the Farmers Market section of the ever-popular Grove shopping center, where stars like the Kardashians love to shop.
SHOP TO IT
A girl’s gotta get some new clothes for the Oscars, obviously! Melissa and friend Maria Ciranni Ionfrida get the goods at The Grove.
AT THE TOP
CHEERS TO THAT!
Melissa toasts her birthday – and the Oscars, of course – at Fig & Olive, where Brandy, Paula Patton and spent their Thursday night celebrating the Academy Awards.
But enough about sightseeing: The day is here! Melissa kicks off her Oscars Sunday with the necessities: coffee and champagne.
MAKE OR BREAK
Prep starts early, with an in-room hair and makeup visit at the Loews Hollywood Hotel from Glam Squad.
And it’s Oscars time! Melissa arrives to the rainy red carpet and meets the man himself outside the Dolby Theatre.
AT FIRST BLUSH
First stop before the PEOPLE VIP bleachers: the Maybelline New York makeup touch-up station, where blogger Aimee Song dishes out style advice.
Melissa, stop taking selfies and get back to the red carpet action!
A SIGHT TO SEE
The carpet chaos is beginning, but first, Melissa and Maria grab a photo with PEOPLE and Entertainment Weekly Editorial Director Jess Cagle, who appeared on the ABC pre-show. “I was really excited about our chance to meet and speak with him,” she says. “He was a delight!”
TWEET & GREET
Live-Tweeting the red carpet, because that’s what you do at #Oscars2015.
Give her a C! Melissa (with her Samsung phone) finds out just how big of a deal the Oscars are – literally.
“These are our new friends, Chicago Rose and Michigan Janet,” Melissa shares of her fellow PEOPLE VIPs. “Their commentary was hysterical.”
And one last selfie to close the show. “Today was amazing,” Melissa says. “I don’t want to shut my eyes to sleep because that will mean this wonderful day is over.” But there’s still more fun to come: Monday’s plans include a taping of Live! with Kelly and Michael and lunch at the Ivy.
