Our New Year's Beauty Resolutions

THE CONCEAL DEAL
Andrea Lavinthal, Style and Beauty Director: As much as I love tinted moisturizers and BB creams, it’s time to accept that sometimes I need more coverage than they can offer (getting older is so fun!). The new Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick looks like concealer, but it’s actually a base with a surprisingly lightweight texture. I swipe it under my eyes, around my nose and on any zits, then use my fingers to blend it in.

PACK IT ALL IN
Andrea Lavinthal, Style and Beauty Director:: You’d think that someone who travels for work as much as I do would have their beauty product packing game down to a science, but I always find myself without at least one essential item and zero time to pop into the nearest Sephora. That’s why I’m resolving to get this Urban Decay all-in-one palette which contains five shadows, blush, bronzer, lip gloss, liner and mascara. Bonus: since it’s way smaller than my overstuffed makeup bag, I’ll have more room in my suitcase for another pair of shoes.

ACTUALLY HYDRATE
Alex Apatoff, Senior Style Editor:: Every star says it. Every makeup artist says it. My mom says it. The key to beauty is – say it with me now – drinking more water. But like Lindsay Lohan, I find water super-boring. So I’m getting a cute water bottle (in glass, which is key – no harmful chemicals to leach into the water) and forcing myself to fill it up six times a day. My skin better look amazing by Jan. 15 or I’m going back to coffee.

TONE UP – MY FACE, AT LEAST
Jackie Fields, Beauty Writer: 2015 should be the year I tone every part of my body, but since that’s a rather ambitious goal, I’m going to start with my face. Yes, I’m embarrassed to say that I have failed to keep a consistent skin care routine for far too long, but now is the time to get back on track, starting with a toner. Tracie Martyn’s “Absolute Puristy” formula is alcohol-free and full of natural ingredients that minimize breakouts and pores – the perfect combination for this cold weather and my clogged skin. But if that wasn’t incentive enough, the lavender scent alone makes me want to whip my face into shape every day.

PLAY WITH MY HAIR
Brittany Talarico, Style News Editor: Every year I vow to cut my hair but I’m still sporting Duggar-length strands (I guess I’m quite attached to it). Odds are 2015 still won’t be the year of the Big Britt Chop, but I am making a pledge to change up my style, starting with texture. I’m not much of a heat styler (I pretty much only air dry), but I’d love to add some volume and body to my strands. I’m recruiting Sultra’s “Bombshell” cone rod curling iron to help me score Victoria’s Secret-inspired waves and to slowly start a more grown-up hair routine.

TREAT MY TRESSES RIGHT
Loni Venti, Style and Beauty Editor: My resolution is the opposite of Brittany’s! I am addicted to my curling iron and will do anything to achieve bombshell hair. So this year, to spare my strands (both my real tresses and my Platinum Seamless extensions) from the torture they typically endure, I am enforcing a strict twice-a-week limit on the irons, wands and rollers I adore so much. For the off days, I’ll weave my hair into a braid while it’s damp to achieve some waves and body. And when I need to heat things up, I’ll protect my locks with Oribe Balm d’Or (it prevents breakage and nourishes with maraca and sandalwood oils).

GET INTO THE MUD
Sarah Kinonen, Editorial Assistant:” My current skin-care routine includes everything but masks. And since the New Year is all about trying new things, I’m adding this GLAMGLOW “Powermud” – known for its non-greasy, deep-cleansing clay formula – to my arsenal. My hope? It’ll help to detoxify and rejuvenate my tired skin from its current sad state and leave my face as fresh as my 2015 outlook.

OIL OF 'OH, HEY!'
Catherine Kast, Style Writer : You can’t do a ton of damage to you skin while sleeping (unless you leave your makeup on, which I know you don’t). But you can do it a ton of good with almost no effort. My first step to taking advantage of that restorative time is this from my local healthy skincare shop Shen Beauty. Aside from the sleep-friendly scents of neroli, lavendar, rose and mandarin, this probiotic product contains several African oils that will aid anti-aging and skin repair.

GET SHADY
Colleen Kratofil, Assistant Producer: I always get suckered into buying the prettiest eyeshadow palettes – but the problem is, I almost never give myself enough time to apply them. Aside from those super fancy nights out, I can’t seem to make eye shadow a constant in my beauty routine. To fix that, I’m planning on using Almay’s “Intense i-color smokey-i Kit”. It comes with a choice of four shade collections to best match my eye color and its quick three-step application process is vital for a newbie like me.
