Kelly Osbourne blanked on applying SPF, leaving the star with an awful sunburn (and tan lines). Here's how to avoid it.

You’d think after Kelly Osbourne’s recent health scare, she would be extra-careful these days. But on Wednesday, the E! Fashion Police co-host, 28, shared a photo of a major health no-no on Twitter: a terrible sunburn. “I’m smart!” she sarcastically Tweeted, along with the pic of her bright red back and intense tan lines.

We feel for her, but as any good PEOPLE StyleWatch reader knows, the first step to having fun in the sun is protecting yourself from it. If you’re already in the summer mindset, it’s time to get prepared now — and these three products have you covered.

For Face: Besides protecting your mug with a cute summer hat, try Clarins SPF 30 Face Sun Screen. It’s not greasy and smells delicious. The brand also makes a special lotion for your eyes, which combats wrinkles and won’t cause irritation.

For Body: Toss this cute Yes to Cucumbers SPF stick in your everyday bag — it won’t take up much real estate and has the Skin Cancer Foundation’s seal of approval.

For your bigger vacation bag, Neutrogena’s new beach defense line is water-resistant for up to 80 minutes and comes in an SPF 85. It’s got your back (but get a cute guy to get your back too — just for fun).

For Overexposure: And if you find yourself in the same painful boat as Kelly (tsk!), natural remedies work best. We swear by aloe vera, shaving cream (cools the skin for immediate relief) and Vitamin E as a triple threat that takes the sting out fast.
