Nicole Kidman is a red carpet veteran — but even the seasoned actress gets the jitters when all eyes on her. So to ensure she keeps her cool while putting her best face forward, the star sticks to a simple mantra, she tells PeopleStyle.

“I try to have a sense of humor about it,” says Kidman, who’ll make another Academy Awards appearance at tonight thanks to her supporting actress nomination for Lion.

The star adds that all the attention on a big night isn’t what makes her feel good about herself, it’s the love and support she gets from her husband Keith Urban and their two daughters, Sunday Rose, 8 and Faith Margaret, 6.

“Love. Being loved and giving love,” she says of what makes her feel her best. “That, and every now and then Faith will say, ‘Momma, you look so pretty.’ Then I glow. There’s nothing like hearing your daughter say that.”

Meanwhile, Urban’s favorite feature of his wife’s isn’t external — which makes the newly minted Neutrogena spokeswoman feel even more beautiful on the inside and out. “[He loves] my heart, which is a nice thing,” she reveals.

As the actress hits the carpet, there’s one more thing that will be on her mind tonight: Her very first commercial with Neutrogena, to promote its Rapid Wrinkle Repair Regenerating Cream, airs during the awards telecast.

Kidman, who’s no stranger to the small screen thanks to her current role in HBO’s Big Little Lies, had just one enthusiastic word to sum up the experience of filming a commercial: “Fun!”

The Academy Awards kicks off live on ABC on Sunday, Feb. 26, with a 7 p.m. ET pre-show and 8:30 p.m. ceremony. See all the Oscar nominees and get your own ballot here!
