Check out how our favorite fashionista switches up her look by using pieces from different outfits

It’s no secret that Olivia Palermo has pulled off some of the best (and boldest) getups we have ever seen — she can make jeans look anything but basic and pull off print-mixing that would look crazy on the average human. But the true secret to her style prowess is her ability to rework her pieces to create new and surprising ensembles. We checked out some of the fashionista-turned-designer‘s recent outfits and discovered that she has a simple style equation she relies on for her always-awesome looks. Take a peek at the examples below and let us know if you can crack the star’s style code.

Two of the looks in our first split come from the 30-day challenge Palermo is currently undergoing on her fashion blog. Every day for a month, the star has uploaded a photo (an added bonus if you’re looking for more style inspiration outside of our Love Her Outfit gallery). In this style equation, the fashionista has gone where few only dare to go — but we love it! She took the sleeveless blazer from her bright marigold Paul & Joe suit and added the Zara maxi she wore with a tank and Sass & Bide clutch — only for her third outfit, she transformed the skirt into a dress! We love the versatility of turning a maxi into a mini.

And of course, she’s never afraid to pair bold patterns together. In her first look, Palermo tones down her checkered peplum Zara top with some leather black skinnies. But in her second ensemble, she manages to pair her black box-print Zara shorts with a striped top and polka-dot button-down. In the end though, she reunites the set for a casual around-town look.

The third tip we’re loving? Taking the best elements of your weekend look and your night-out look, you can mix and match for the perfect office-ready outfit. Palermo took a pair of Hudson jeans from her street style, added a honeycomb-print Tibi sweater that she wore to the Tribeca Film Festival and layered them with a white button-down, strappy heels and statement necklace for a chic black-and-white ensemble that is comfortable yet elevated.
