If Grace Potter is not on your radar, she should be. The frontwoman from the rock band Grace Potter and the Nocturnals has some great style, great energy and a pretty badass attitude. So it’s no suprise Mark cosmetics selected her to star in their “10 to Watch” campaign, following the Vampire Diaries‘ Kat Graham, Les Miserables star Samantha Barks and R&B singer Elle Varner.

And did we mention she’s also hilarious? Her beauty inspiration proves that point.

“Whenever I leave the house, first thing I do is I think would Jack Nicholson like this,” she shares in the exclusive clip below. “So he’s my beauty inspiration, because he’s my hero. I Love him. And I’d like to think that I’m the imaginary muse of Jack Nicholson even though I’ve never met him before. I’m dressing for Jack. But circa 1970 Jack.”

As for her beauty routine, she likes to keep things simple. “I never like to overdo it. I think one thing that empowers me about what I put on my face is having restraint. It’s like, a great artist should know when to stop. Everything in moderation.”

Potter’s laid-back makeup approach may have directly resulted from one big night out. “The biggest beauty risk I’ve ever taken would probably be the day I decided to do a smokey eye, and it was a mistake,” she shares. “Wish I hadn’t done it. I had crazy platinum blonde hair at the time. I had been in Vegas and had a glass of champagne and thought it was a great idea to bleach my hair blonde and do a smoky eye. It was for the Country Music Awards, and I looked like a maniac. It was not cool.”

So for now, she’ll stick to the basics from Mark. “I discovered the brand through one of my favorite makeup artists, and she was using it on me once … I remember looking in the mirror and thinking, ‘This is what skin should look like when you have makeup on,” she says. “It’s like liquid skin. It shouldn’t look like anything other than what you are and who you are. And that’s the way I felt when I put Mark makeup on for the first time.”
