Clearly we weren’t the only ones to sit up and take notice of Lupita Nyong’o’s style when she burst onto the scene last fall. The 12 Years a Slave actress has made a meteoric rise in the fashion world — first landing a stunning editorial photo in Vogue, and now landing a spot in Miu Miu’s spring/summer ad campaign.

The actress joins other emerging young actresses including Elle Fanning, Elizabeth Olsen and Bella Heathcote (not pictured) for the fun, retro-feeling ads shot by Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. It’s fun to see Nyong’o in a totally unexpected outfit — while she’s most likely to wear sleek, streamlined sheaths and matching delicate shoes on the red carpet, in her ad, she’s decked out in a beaded bustier top, pink tights and some serious platform sandals. And we’re not surprised she wears it so well; after all, one of the first dresses she wore that caught our eye was a lovely bird print Miu Miu dress.

Fanning (above) appears to be more in her comfort zone in the ads, wearing a high-neck tulip print frock, textured yellow tights and red ankle-strap heels. The youngest Fanning sister hams it up, allowing plenty of her silly disposition to shine through — after all, she is only 15.

And Olsen, 24, channels her inner ’70s diva for her ad, showing off pin-straight strands, lace-up boots over red socks, a covetable handbag and a palapable sense of ennui. “The actresses’ poses, full of personality, convey their diverse points of view, effortlessly translating the new spirit of the Miu Miu woman,” the company says in a statement.
