The Miss USA pageant is as American as apple pie, the Fourth of July, and, well, a competition that involves women walking around in swimsuits and evening wear. Each year one woman is chosen to represent her state, demonstrating her beauty, brains, and talents in order to determine who will become this year’s nominal representative of all this fine nation has to offer. But while the contest is supposed to be all about the girls on stage strutting their stuff, we couldn’t help but be distracted by the gorgeous hosts Julianne Hough and Ashley Graham and the endless parade of red carpet gowns they changed into throughout the evening.
Together, Graham and Hough managed to go through more stunning dresses in a few hours than any of the contestants, who had a measly five outfit changes compared to their combined seven. The two looks above, for example, were merely a pit-stop on the long journey of slay the ladies took us through last night. For a small portion of their hosting duties, Hough wore a navy blue jumpsuit, giving a fun twist on black tie dressing, which featured a criss-cross halter neckline and a large cutout across the midriff. Graham, on the other hand, kept things classic and elegant in a sparkly ribbed gown that flaunted her enviable curves.
Of course, these are totally different looks from what the two stars showed up in on the red carpet. Ashley hit the step-and-repeat wearing a simple blue silk St. John sheath dress (which totally explains the co-host’s first wardrobe change), giving us major summer wedding guest inspo with its low-key, yet sexy, plunging neckline and body-skimming silhouette. Hough went the opposite route giving off major glamour, looking like a walking talking diamond in a halter top shimmering gown with a thigh-high slit.

But while Ashley simply switched up her look once so as not to be too matchy-matchy in bright blue with her co-host, Julianne changed up her ensemble another three times throughout the show for a grand total of five gorgeous looks all for herself.
Even though she arrived in a head-to-toe glittering halter top KaufmanFranco number, the host changed into yet another sparkling get-up, this time opting for a strapless variation of the same style. She then combined both looks in a red gown that featured the slit from the first dress combined with the strapless-ness of the second, with a bit of train thrown in, just for good measure. And then Hough did a total style 360, changing into a sequin-laden black long-sleeve look with a high, almost mock turtleneck collar from Julea Domani by Zeena Zaki.
Finally, while the quick-changes between each full-length look were clearly pretty impressive, what was even more mind-blowing was Hough’s lightening fast hair transformations. Her stylist Riawna Capri revealed on Instagram that you weren’t just imagining those mini-makeovers between commercial breaks, she actually had to practice to perfect each style in under four minutes, with one change needing to happen in under two minutes and 45 seconds! Now we just need Capri to teach us all her instant styling secrets so we can get a few extra minutes of shut-eye every morning.
