Miley Cyrus Pays Tribute to Ellen DeGeneres by Wearing the Host's Famous Time Cover on Her Ears!
Miley Cyrus paid a special tribute to Ellen DeGeneres through her accessories
For Ellen DeGeneres‘s 61st birthday, the talk show host celebrated with a star-studded show, and one guest honored the birthday girl in a sweet and stylish way.
Miley Cyrus and Mark Ronson were on-hand at The Ellen DeGeneres Show to perform their new hit song, “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart,” and Cyrus paid a special tribute to DeGeneres through her accessories.
During her performance, Cyrus was spotted wearing wide-leg pants with an oversize sweatshirt, T-shirt and layers of chain necklaces, but it was her pair of earrings that stood out the most. Cyrus accessorized with a pair of earrings that were small recreations of DeGeneres’s groundbreaking April 14, 1997 cover of TIME magazine. They were made by Dena, an artist that creates jewelry from iconic pop culture images.
The issue marked the first time DeGeneres formerly came out as gay, and the comedian opened up to TIME in 2017 to reflect on the groundbreaking cover.
When asked which was more difficult, the cover or coming out to her family, she replied that the cover was tougher.
“This. I mean, I don’t understand a fear of coming out to your friends and family. I’ve been really lucky,” she shared. “I have a really great family. I have parents who understand. My mother understands, now even more so. My father is supportive. My dad said the most hilarious thing when I told him what I was going to do on the show. He said, ‘You’re not going to go all flamboyant, are ya?’ I was like, ‘Yeah, Dad, I’m going to completely change. I’m going to start wearing leather vests. I’m going to get one of those haircuts that they all have.'”

To celebrate her 60th birthday last year, DeGeneres partied with a star-studded bash which included Drew Barrymore, Gwyneth Paltrow, Melissa McCarthy, Chris Martin, Leonardo DiCaprio, Oprah Winfrey, Bruno Mars, Chrissy Teigen, John Legend, Kris Jenner, Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West to name just a few of the A-list attendees.
Her wife, Portia de Rossi, planned the entire soirée. “Portia did the whole thing, she put the whole thing together,” DeGeneres gushed on her show after the party. “I love you. Thank you very much for doing that. You put on the most amazing party. It’s just a party I’ll never forget. It was a lovely, lovely evening.”
