Olympic Gold Medalist Mikaela Shiffrin and Her Stylist Take Us Inside Her ESPY Awards Look
"Alexandra and I got in touch through Red Bull, and I was really excited to work with a stylist," says Mikaela.
GETTING THE BALL ROLLING
"I had a phone call with Alexandra a few weeks ago to talk about styles that I like. I sent her some pictures that I liked and she pulled a bunch of different options from all of her various magic sources," says Mikaela. Alexandra ended up pulling a bunch of options from Balmain, David Koma, Anthony Vaccarello and Kaufman Franco for Mikaela.
"I'm excited to meet some of the athletes, and I'm excited to present," Mikaela says about attending the biggest night in sports.
"Mikaela referenced several photos of Rosie Huntington Whitely and Jenna Dewan's past red carpet moments - all of which were youthful and fun while remaining classic and timeless — she has such great taste," says Alexandra.
"I wanted to bring her some high-end brands for this debut moment, not only so she could feel stunning, but also so that the world would see what a budding fashionista Mikaela truly is," says Alexandra.
"I've always been like, 'I don't know how to find dresses for the ESPYs'" says Mikaela, who wore Tacori jewels for the night. But Alexandra says the skier did her research. "It was clear Mikaela had put a lot of thought into this moment which inspired me even more to make this look as perfect as it could be," Alexandra says.
"Mikaela requested platform heels for her look so I went straight to my favorite platform deisgner, Giuseppe Zanotti," says Alexandra. "I know from past experience they are fairly comfortable for clients making the long trek down the red carpet."
Among all the dresses Alexandra pulled, Mikaela settled on a rose gold Kaufman Franco mini dress with the racerback design. "It was the perfect dress for her. She was literally glowing in it," says Alexandra who loved the sporty nod in the design.
Mikaela said working with a stylist for the first time for such a big event was a thrill. "It was super fun and exciting! I learned a lot about my own body and what looks good and what maybe doesn't, and I’m really excited with the dress that we ended up picking. It's the first time that I actually felt like I looked good in a dress that I wanted to wear."
